Keeping your home clean is something you work on every day—dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, etc…. But did you know that there are things in your home that are filled with harmful bacteria? Gross, right? Here are three really dirty things in your home you need to clean more often:
Kitchen sponges, dishcloths, and towels
These must have kitchen items may seem innocent enough, but nestled between the fibers is bacteria. Lots and lots of bacteria. Nasty bacteria like salmonella and E. coli can be found on kitchen linens. Wash all your kitchen linens in a separate load with hot water and 1 cup of white vinegar. Wash them again with ½ cup of baking soda. The vinegar strips out the smell and bacteria while the second wash with the baking soda makes them more absorbent and soft.
Door knobs, handles, and light switches
These are things we touch all day long. If you’ve got germs on your hands, you transfer them to those surfaces. When someone else touches them, they transfer to them. Yuck. Wipe them down with anti-bacterial wipes to keep dangerous germs away.
Electronics
The same principle goes with electronics. Your hands are dirty, you touch the remote or the radio knob, and you transfer germs. Your cell phone is also a germ magnet. You can find special electronic safe anti-bacterial wipes to keep your equipment in top shape and germ-free.
Germs are everywhere and it’s impossible to avoid them. But with a little care and diligence, you can keep the biggest offenders out of your home. Once you start with these three areas, you’ll be amazed at how many other things you’ll find in your home that probably need to be cleaned more often than they are.
