5 Must Do’s for Spring Cleaning

Springtime means rain showers, colorful tulips, baby animals — and that it’s finally time to tackle the deep cleaning you’ve been putting off all winter. Spring cleaning may not be fun, but it sure is satisfying — especially after it’s finished. Freshen your home in no time by checking off these five must-do spring cleaning tasks.

1. Baseboards

Baseboards collect all kinds of dust and grime, and they are easily overlooked during a routine daily cleanup. Spring cleaning is a great time to tackle this task. Make it simpler by starting off with your central vacuum system to remove dry dust and debris on and around your baseboards, and then follow up with a sponge and soapy water and/or a magic eraser.

2. Under the Oven

For a lot of people, the scary floor space under the oven falls under the adage “out of sight, out of mind.” But when the weather warms and ants and other crawly critters are on the hunt for a snack, the last thing you want is a smorgasbord of crumbs in your kitchen. Move your oven carefully (grab a friend or family member to help), and have your central vacuum ready to make the crumbs underneath disappear.

3. Upholstered Furnishings

Your upholstered couches, chairs, pillows, and other furnishings could do with a nice springtime freshening. Vacuum dust, crumbs, pet hair, and more off the fabric, making sure to cover every surface. Finish up with shampooing the fabric and using a stain remover to tackle any spots.

4. Dust Shelves

Dusting may be part of your regular cleaning routine, but if you’re like most people, you might dust around large decorations and knick-knacks. While spring cleaning, remove every book, picture, and vacation souvenir from every bookshelf, mantle, decorative chest, and more to get a thorough cleaning. Vacuum up the larger pieces of debris, using your central vacuum attachments to make sure you get into every nook and cranny. Consider rearranging your decor as you replace it to give your home a new look.

5. Blinds

Cleaning blinds can be a tedious task, but getting it done can really spruce up the look and feel of your home. Rather than cleaning each individual piece at a time, try using the brush attachment on your central vacuum and running it over your blinds. Make sure to vacuum up any dirt that fell onto the floor while you were working.
